Krept & Konan – “Ban Drill” [Short Film]
There’s been a huge controversy going on about UK Drill, a subgenre of rap that originated in Chicago before making its way to London, characterized by a particular tempo and aggressive lyrics. Politicians and Police drew links between the genre and rising knife crime in England’s capital. At least 30 videos have been removed from YouTube, a West London group got banned from making music without prior police permission and, most recently, artists Skengdo and AM were handed suspended prison sentences for performing one of their songs on stage.
South London’s Krept and Konan have hit out against critics of the Drill music scene in their new track and accompanying short film, saying moves to ban it can push performers back to a life of crime.
